    Conscription Mythic Empty Conscription Mythic

Post  adamt Thu May 13, 2010 11:44 am

like Andy I thought this was a flash in the pan when i saw the german lists and the ptq lists..
I finally put it together and im liking it, a LOT

the biggest advantage of conscriptions is that unlike finest hour/rafiq there isn't any chump blocking nonsense going on as a x+10/x+10 trampler needs to be deal with right then and half the time is usually game against most decks the turn sovereign is played and conscription hits.

that and the fact that they now need to deal with both the conscripted creature and the Soveriegns or else there will be another conscription coming out next turn.

Wesley can back this up.. last night against his OTV deck g1, i had turn 1 bird, turn 2 hierarch, turn 3 BSA, turn 4 Sovereign hit you for 17, gain 17, GO. next turns fog effect still kills 2 permanants with the annihilator trigger and fetch more conscriptions.

yeah, it happens like once in a blue moon, but against decks with no mass removal its pretty much game whatever turn it happens on.

    here's the list

    4 Baneslayer Angel
    4 Birds of Paradise
    4 Knight of the Reliquary
    4 Lotus Cobra
    4 Noble Hierarch
    3 Dauntless Escort
    4 Sovereigns of Lost Alara
    1 Thornling

    2 Eldrazi Conscription
    2 Gideon Jura
    3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor

    1 Arid Mesa
    3 Celestial Colonnade
    4 Forest
    1 Glacial Fortress
    2 Island
    4 Misty Rainforest
    2 Plains
    2 Sejiri Steppe
    2 Stirring Wildwood
    1 Sunpetal Grove
    3 Verdant Catacombs

    Sideboard
    2 Mind Control (mirror, bloodwitch)
3 Rhox War Monk (jund, rdw)
3 Bant Charm (mirror, OTV, etc)
    2 Oblivion Ring (planeswakers, Polymorph)
    4 Negate (planeswalkers, OTV, Polymorph
    1 Deprive (see negate)

for me there is pretty much just one variable slot in the main ( the Thornling) and 1 in the board (the deprive)

the Kyle Boggemes list with time warps is cute, but i feel like i want more in this deck from a 5cc spell than to just take another turn and maybe get another land drop/attack. it still has the problems that the finest hour/rafiq versions of mythic did.. your creatures just get chump blocked. Trample is huge right now.

the Thornling could obv be the 4th escort, but id rather mix it up.
zvi's original list had rampaging baloths but it just seems like for 6 mana id want more out of it as it really needs to played when you have 6 mana and can play a fetch to get any value out of it (as opposed to the thornling coming out a turn earlier with indestructible mana available.)

I was thinking either a Sphinx of Jwar Isle (as it has the same function as being a beater vs Jund) or a singleton Garruk for Jund/the Mirror etc..

I'm leaning towards Garruk as it won't be expected and the overrun ability will be huge in any sort of mirror. the beast making is great vs control like gideon is and mana acceleration is alway sweet.

the Deprive slot in the s/b could be a Pridemage/Day of Judgement/Telemin Performance/sphinx/garruk/admonition angel

if it were a pridemage, another negate would need to be a pridemage and i just think negate is better vs the decks id be boarding pridemages in for.

if it were a DOJ, then it would be great for the mirror when they start overcommiting to hold back some and get an advantage... but with all the dauntless escorts maindeck now it may not be best.

telemin performance plays the same role as the deprive would against polymorph but is really an i win spell against them as opposed to a "stop one of your 4 ways to go off" spells.. Planeswalker decks will keep their walls in so they wont help there... OTV will give me a hulk... nope.. fog decks arent the best right now and an eldrazi guy would be better for that purpose of beating that.

sphinx would be good vs jund but just gets smacked around by BSAs

admonition angel seems super good vs the mirror or planeswalkers but it will be o-ringed or pathed quite often..

    thoughts?
