    Honey Roasted/Lightly Toasted

Post  Winterhalter on Sun Feb 28, 2010 4:02 pm

This is what I'm thinking about for Jersey:

    4 Noble Hierarch
    4 Wild Nacatl
    3 Qasali Pridemage
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Knight of the Reliquary
    4 Woolly Thoctar
    2 Bloodbraid Elf

    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Path to Exile
    3 Lightning Helix
    2 Umezawa's Jitte

    4 Arid Mesa
    4 Scalding Tarn
    4 Verdant Catacombs

    1 Sacred Foundry
    2 Stomping Ground
    1 Temple Garden

    1 Mountain
    2 Forest
    2 Plains

    1 Treetop Village

    SB
    4 Blood Moon
    3 Ancient Grudge
    4 Tormod's Crypt/Ravenous Trap/Relic of Progenitus
    2 Volcanic Fallout
    2 Ethersworn Canonist

Other board cards I would consider include Thrill of the Hunt and Baneslayer.

    Suggestions/criticisms welcome.

rav trap is the best anti dredge card, but isn't very versatile. Bog and Tormod's Crypt are both worth considering since they are also playable vs living end, where rav trap doesn't do anything against that deck.

Aren't Mage and Negate enough vs. Living End?

Minus the "pretty much," this is correct.

They are enough to give you a chance, but Shriekmaw will trump the Mage and they see more cards than you. Fulminator and Violent Outburst are pretty effective against Negate as well. Knights will get you a lot of value if you have a Bog in your list someplace (even if it is 3 trap/1 bog because that is all you can afford for space against the 'yard).

So I know a bunch of you are done with extended for the season, but I think we're going to Montreal and there's still one more modo q. I have 3 different zoo lists that are all in contention. I feel like at least online the meta is so skewed toward Theps that it and the mirror are essentially all you should worry about even at the expense of other matchups. This first version is with that in mind:

Also I have come to the somewhat starteling revelation that lightning helix is just better than bolt in the current meta, and that if we have to cut one it should be bolt. Helix is so critical to the mirror that whoever plyes the most helices often wins.

In this deck I'm still not sure if bloodbraid or less land and more gas are better.

    Creatures
    4 Bloodbraid
    4 Knight Of The Reliquary
    4 Noble Heezy
    4 Qasali Pridemage
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Wild Nacatl

    Instants
    4 Lightning Helix
    3 Bant charm
    4 Path To Exile

    Sorceries
    4 Tribal Flames

    Basic Lands
    1 Forest
    1 Plains
    1 Mountain

    Lands
    4 Arid Mesa
    1 Hallowed Fountain
    4 Marsh Flats
    4 Misty Rainforest
    1 Godless Shrine
    1 Sacred Foundry
    1 Steam Vents
    1 Stomping Ground
    1 Temple Garden

    Sideboard:

    4 Meddling Mage
    1 Bant Charm
    4 Negate
    2 Umezawa's Jitte
    2 Elspeth, Knight-errant
    1 Bojuka Bog
    1 Ghost Quarter

    All out attack:

This is the most consistent version, but seems underpowered against Theps.

    Creatures
    4 Kird Ape
    4 Knight Of The Reliquary
    4 Loam Lion
    4 Qasali Pridemage
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Wild Nacatl

    Instants
    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Lightning Helix
    4 Path To Exile

    Sorceries
    4 Tribal Flames

    Basic Lands
    1 Forest
    1 Plains

    Lands
    4 Arid Mesa
    1 Hallowed Fountain
    4 Marsh Flats
    4 Misty Rainforest
    1 Godless Shrine
    1 Sacred Foundry
    1 Steam Vents
    1 Stomping Ground
    1 Temple Garden

    Sideboard:

    3 Meddling Mage
    3 Bant Charm
    3 Negate
    2 Umezawa's Jitte
    2 Elspeth, Knight-errant
    1 Bojuka Bog
    1 Ghost Quarter

Finally the deck that does the most broken things, but is sometimes underwhealming Blood Zoon. The biggest problem with theis deck is that almost has to run damping matrix which does sometimes buy you a turn but SUCKS.

    Creatures
    4 Bloodbraid
    4 Knight Of The Reliquary
    4 Noble Heezy
    2 Qasali Pridemage
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Wild Nacatl

    2 Bolt
    4 Lightning Helix
    3 Temporal Isolation
    4 Boom Bust
    3 Blood Moon

    Basic Lands
    3 Forest
    3 Plains

    Lands
    4 Arid Mesa
    4 Marsh Flats
    4 Misty Rainforest
    2 Sacred Foundry
    2 Stomping Ground
    1 Temple Garden
    1 Ghost Quarter

    Sideboard:

    3 Anchient Gridge
    1 Path
    2 Umezawa's Jitte
    2 Ranger of Eos
    1 Bojuka Bog
    2 Tormond's Crypt
    4 Ethersworn Canonist
