what ROE cards will impact Standard?

Post  adamt on Tue Apr 06, 2010 10:03 am

so what ROE cards spoiled so far do you guys see having a COMPETITIVE impact on Standard?

What cards will fit into existing archetypes?

What cards will spawn their own archetypes

    spoilers are here:

    and here:

    ==============

    my early thoughts:

all is dust - colorless board clearer.. steep at 7 mana, but with chalices.. perhaps in mono black or u/w to deal with planeswalkers?

gideon jura - can defend itself and for 0 make a 6/6 post wrath

sarkhan the mad - in the r/b aggro deck from the asian standard GP.. or perhaps jund?

student of warfare - there's all sorts of WW running around now with the equipment dudes and pro-bears

This is my candidate for "card that will impact standard the most:"

Other cards that will be felt:

    Cards worth watching:

Either Kozilek or Emrakul will see play also, depending on whether the threshold for "infinite mana" is below or above 15.

perhaps u/w walls&baneslayers.dec is what WOTC thinks will save us from a summer of bloodbraid elves?

i could easily see the wall replacing the KOWOrchids in the tapout builds...

Wall completely obsoletes both White Orchid and Spreading Seas in UW control decks. There is now no reason to run a pure tap-out build. Shove some counters in there.

not too sure if this could make a mono black build playable in standard... but an instant speed damnation vs Zoo or thopters in extended seems pretty damn sweet.

this seems like another one of those "wow they designed another really great flavorful card that won't affect standard until jund rotates" cards..

perhaps it will find a home in mythic or naya or something... is there anyway to easily get them in the graveyard from your deck or hand (ie like intuition would do in classic)?

there's nothing wrong with Vengevine. He's kinda like Solifuge, which was a very good card back in the day.

The easiest way to get Vengevine from hand to graveyard is to play against Jund.

Wotc is reeeeaaally trying to make mono black playable:

    Consuming Vapors

    Name: Consuming Vapors
    Cost: 3B
    Type: Sorcery
Rules Text: Target player sacrifices a creature. You gain life equal to that creature's toughness.
    Rebound
    Rarity: Rare
